New Blackstone

#1 Post by semroc » Tue Oct 10, 2017 3:29 pm

Just got this Blackstone. I'll open it up tomorrow for pics of the movement. Do you think this is the original dial? It's locked up, but the hands move. So hopefully a COA will get it going? Are the lume Blackstones common or is this a rare model? Thanks, Eli.

I'm not certain, but I don't think the dial correct. Greg will probably have to answer this one. There may be photos in the Illinois photo thread.

That looks like an old redial for the Speedway/Marquis series dial.

Here is an original Blackstone.

Check with Fred for a dial. He may have one!

Oh, okay. Thanks for the pics. Here's the movement. It fired right up after tinkering with it!

Trying to get the movement out. Does it just pop out, after i take the screws out? It doesn't want to come out easily. I broke an Elgin movement prying it out, and I dont want to brek this one. Any suggestions in getting this one out? Thanks.

It probably comes out from the top, after you pop off the bezel.

Yes, it comes out the front. Like many Illinois 3/0 and 6/0 watches, the Blackstone has a three-piece case. You take off the back and take out the stem and the screws, as you have, with the bezel still in place to keep the movement from falling out. Then you take the bezel off, and the movement should drop out the front.

Exactly!

After you get it out and get the dial off (there are 3 VERY small screws on the edge of the movement don't lose them)
I bet there are scratch marks on the back of the dial, most likelly a 4 digit code from the old redial.
PLUS, don't lose those hands, they are the wrong ones, but original and difficult to find, SAVE THEM!
Find the ones on mine (also look in the photo thread)

Oh okay, got it. Thank you. I appreciate the help. I'll start looking for some hands.
