Illinois Spotlight- Futura

#1 Post by GJH » Sun Jul 22, 2012 9:36 am

The 1929 Illinois Futura:

I remember emailing Rick one day saying "Hey Rick I found a really cool Futura on ebay...
Rick replied, no Greg You have found yourself something even better...
An Illinois Wentworth!"
(They both share the case number...
I will show you one of those down the line!)

This watch looks very "Futuristic" for the 20's and has beautiful curvy multi-layered bezel.
I have been wanting one of these for a long time and wound up getting it for Dad for Father's day one year!

Have a few more to show down the line including a cool "Custom Dial"

It is sleek and fits very nicely on the Wrist.

Another example that proves you don't have to spend a fortune
to have a very nice watch.

"Further evidence on Illinois Craftsmanship in the 12/0 size watch field."

GJH Notes:
Still looks cool 80 years later!
Really sits nicely on the wrist.
They are getting harder to find... I looked for mine for quite some time.
A great watch for the collection!
There is one on the bay right now (nothing to do with me)

ENJOY!

I like the design of the Futura (and of the Wentworth -- and I own a wgf W., which I showed on WTF), but they are at the lower limits of "small-ness", even for me!

That is a beauty Adam!
Notice the straight edges on the inside in the bezel...
They share the same case number but are slightly different.
A very cool watch!
You tend to see more of the Futuras than the Wentworth (especially in WGF) for sure!

Here is my Futura. Flawless case, runs strong, plastic crystal was, and is, yellowed, but I like it that way. It was a Long Beach (CA) flea market find in the late 80's. Just laying on a blanket of misc. stuff. Can't recall the exact price, but under $50.

Hi Randy

Hate to bother you Randy, but I agree with Greg that Futura story of yours will make a great Fantastic Find.

Please send it when you can.

For those of you that do not know Randy has been kind enough to already send to me three great Fantastic Finds.

I hope the rest to this Forum members will send theirs as well to fred@illinoiswatches.com.

Thanks
FJF

Very, very nice
Sadly I can report "no fantastic find" - here
