Paul Newman's Paul Newman

#1 Post by coronado » Tue Aug 08, 2017 6:18 pm

The first watch forum I look at each day is this one, and then the vintage Omega forum, and then Hodinkee.

Great article on Hodinkee about Paul Newman's Rolex Daytona which will be auctioned this fall. Any guesses about what it will bring?

I had been aware that the watch was coming up for auction, and had seen speculation about the million$$ it would bring, but hadn't read its history, so thanks for the link, Bryan.

P.S. Good thing you mentioned you stop at this forum first in the morning, otherwise we would think you were cheating on us. 8-)

The vintage Omega forum is a very close second to this one. It is really hard to resist looking at vintage Speedmaster content before Hamilton and Elgin each morning.

Sold this evening for $17.7 million. A new record for a wristwatch.

Watched the auction on Hodinkee - streamed live from the Phillips auction

Amazing - our Red Bar group had a gentlemen's wager on how high it would go

I was the highest at $4mm, I think the bidding went straight from $1mm to $10mm

Results for other watches offered were strong, hope this will bolster the entire market

Wow. Knew it would be high but would have never guessed that high.
