Is this an E-1?

#1 Post by semroc » Wed Aug 30, 2017 1:11 pm

This watch is on ebay. The inside of the caseback says e1, but the dial doesnt look right. I thought the E1 had those sideways numbers. I could be wrong though. I'm interested because it would be nice to get another e series watch. Thank you. Eli.

I think someone else here posted this a while back. I though a re-post might help clarify.

I've highlighted the pertinent part of the catalog page posted above.

It is an E-1. The watch came with several dials, including luminous like yours. Yours has aftermarket luminous hands, but the correct Elgin luminous hands are readily available... they should look like the hands on the Model E-2 pictured just below the E-1 in the large catalog page posted above.

Thank you all. I appreciate it. It's nice to know the facts about the watch before I start bidding. This forum rules!

I'm unsure about this one too. Is this an e series watch?

The good news is that since it's stamped "E-I" it means it was originally intended for an Elgin OR Illinois movement. So it's one people collect.
